When Pacheco Koch was asked to be the lead landscape architectural consultant for this 2.5-mile SM Wright Parkway project, they turned to the surrounding historic neighborhoods for inspiration. The project, including bridge bents, abutments, MSE walls, fencing, paving, landscaping and sustainable drainage and stormwater treatment solutions, needed to contribute to the area. Developing context sensitive options that incorporated historical forms, materials and elements, like the Craftsman style architecture, helped the projects fit comfortably within the neighborhoods and contribute to the design fabric of the overall community. Concepts were presented to a stakeholder group comprised of the City of Dallas design studio, several local ministers, community activists and business owners for input and selection of detailed design options they felt best represented their community.
